At Excel Spring & Stamping we specialize in high volume custom metal stampings. The project highlighted here represents a production run of over 5,000,000 to date. This stamped component was designed for use as an intake valve on an air compressor. These valves were stamped from Sandvik 7C27Mo2, a hardened and tempered martensitic stainless steel, which is alloyed with molybdenum.

The finished valve measures .483″ (±.003″) wide and .0080″( ±.0004″) thick. After the flapper valves were stamped, they were treated in our proprietary flapper valve finishing process. This finish gives the valve excellent fatigue strength, while maintaining the required flatness. Complete flatness of the flapper valve is critical to achieving compressor performance and service life.

Finally, the parts were stacked on a custom fixture, and the stacks carefully packed in cartons. At Excel Spring & Stamping, we have become well-known in the compressor industry for our high quality flapper valve stamping and finishing.
