Excel Spring & Stamping has produced the part highlighted here for a lawn and garden industry customer in Arkansas. These bar adjusting pins are used to adjust the position of the bar on a chainsaw, and must withstand the vibratory forces exerted on the saw through repeated use. The adjusting pins are stamped from AISI 1008/1010 hot rolled steel, on our 38 ton punch press. The threads were tapped at the same time using in-die tapping, saving a costly secondary process. We have produced over 20,000,000 of these parts to date.

Finished parts were checked with thread gauges for conformance to customer specifications. After stamping, the pins were deburred, heat treated to improve material strength, and then Zinc plated for corrosion protection. The steel was tested for chemical composition according to the ASTM A568 testing specification.
